University of Montana Classroom Computers for Interest Groups and Hybrid Meetings
Classrooms in the Eck Language Arts building are equipped with computers, projectors, and microphones that
can be used for Zoom meetings. The computers are controlled from an “Extron” touch-screen console on a
desktop at the front of each classroom. To use the house computer, make sure the “PC” icon is
highlighted—touch it if is not. You can log onto the computer with the following username and password:
User name: Um\event.guest
Password: Gogriz123
Touching the Extron screen will activate the projector. If the projector screen isn’t lowered, there is a switch
on the wall to control its position.
If you have your meeting or interest group scheduled as a hybrid session, there should be a link to a Zoom
meeting listed in the Interest Groups page at https://npym.org/schedule.
After you click a link to enter a Zoom meeting, click the "Join from browser" link. That will open the Zoom session in the web browser. (The Zoom app is not installed on the local computers.)
There are two cameras in the Eck rooms we are using. One is called HoverCam and the other is called HuddleCam. The simplest to use is the HoverCam, which is mounted on the front desk by the monitor. Simply point it in the direction desired. (Of course you need to tell Zoom to use that camera device.) There is an icon in the lower left corner of the Extron screen to access controls for the ceiling-mounted HuddleCam. Preset #1 will point the camera toward the front of the room.
To allow remote Zoom participants to screenshare, click the security badge icon in the Zoom toolbar and check mark "share screen" under the heading "Allow participants to:".
If your presentation material is contained on a thumb drive, there are USB ports next to the Extron console.
The computer is equipped with Microsoft Office applications, so you can present material in compatible file
formats for those applications
You have the option of using the projector with your own computer if it has an HDMI video port. For that
connection, touch the “HDMI” icon at the top of the Extron console. You won’t have access to the room’s
audio facilities when you use this option.
When you have finished your presentation, please press the “System Off” icon near the lower right-hand
corner of the Extron screen.
Contact Ted Etter at (406) 370-9280 if you are having difficulty getting the equipment to work for you.
