Registration Info OLD

Registration is now open for NPYM’s 2020 Annual Session, which will be held online July 22nd to 26th!

Please read below for answers to some common questions, and when you’re ready, register here. Please contact Judy Lackey at as_registrar@npym.org with any questions about Registration.

We look forward to gathering with you in worship and fellowship soon.

What sorts of sessions and activities are scheduled for Annual Session?
While we won’t be gathering in person, the Planning Committee has been hard at work creating an online event that will include much of what Friends love about Annual Session -- Worship Sharing, Interest Groups, Plenaries, Music, Community Night, and more are all part of the schedule. Take a look at the full schedule here.

The online format will make it easy for you to attend as much or as little of the programming as you are led to, with plenty of opportunities to connect with Friends and plenty of time for breaks away from the screen. Without the financial and scheduling barriers of gathering in person, we expect to see some Friends who haven’t been able to join in past years and find new, creative ways to connect with one another from afar.

How will having Annual Session online work?
We will be meeting by Zoom, video-conferencing software that allows us to see and hear the other participants. Registrants will have access to a secure website with the complete Annual Session schedule that has links (and phone numbers) for each meeting. Head to this page for more information about using Zoom, and stay-tuned for info about the practice Zoom sessions we will be hosting.

What do I need to be able to attend Zoom meetings?
A computer with camera, microphone, and fast internet will give you the best experience, but you can also call in to each session using only a phone. To join by phone, you will simply call a number and enter a code we provide. To join by computer (or a smartphone or tablet), you will need the Zoom software available here. We are committed to supporting anyone who wants to join, so read more here, and please reach out with any questions or concerns.

What if I just want to attend Interest Groups?
One benefit of gathering online is that, for the first time, we can invite Friends everywhere to attend our Interest Groups, scheduled to begin July 10th, without needing to register for Annual Session. Even if you aren’t able to join us for the whole Annual Session, check out our growing list of Interest Groups here and consider attending some of those. (And if you’re thinking of leading an Interest Group, go ahead and sign up soon here, because we have a very firm deadline of June 30th this year.)

What is the cost to register?
The suggested cost of this session is $25/adult, $10/Junior Friend, and no cost for younger children. Suggested costs are capped at $35/household. These fees will go towards paying the staff who assist with Annual Session and covering the cost of the technology we need to host it. We continue to use Abundant Financing, so you may pay any amount as led -- just make sure the amount you wish to pay is properly noted on the payment page when you register.

Will there be a Children’s Program? Junior Friends?
Yes! Children in Preschool through Central Friends (middle school) will meet by Zoom for staff-led programs for 30 minutes to an hour each day Thursday to Saturday. These meetings are scheduled at times when adults are not in sessions themselves to allow parents to be present with their children. Check the Childrens’ Program page for more information. As usual, Junior Friends are creating their own event with some participation in the plenaries and other sessions. As plans evolve, they will share their information on the Junior Friends page

What about Quaker Fair?
Quaker Fair has also been reimagined into an online format, and we are accepting presentation proposals through June 30th; check this page for more information.

Will there be Open Mic or Community Night?
Start brainstorming now for performances or other creative endeavors to share for Open Mic/Community Night -- performances can be live or pre-recorded. Send a brief description of your planned song, dance, or other performance to: as_prog_coordinator@npym.org

What can I do to help?
We will need help hosting Zoom meetings, and if you have a Zoom pro account you’d be willing to share, that would be useful too. Being a host does not require a pro account, and you’ll need only basic Zoom familiarity; we will train you. Visit this page to sign up to help and find out about other opportunities to lend a hand.
